The practice of Krishna Consciousness is based on philosophy from the timeless Vedic texts and teachings of spiritual masters in disciplic succession originating from Lord Krishna. Sharing of spiritual knowledge and practice to members of society at large are done by distributing Srila Prabhupada's books, sacred street chanting, and distributing sacred food.
Saastra Daan : Literally meaning "Wisdom donation", this project involves placement of one of the main yoga texts and scripture, Bhagavad Gita As It Is, in hotels, hospitals, airports, libraries, and other public amenities across Alberta. Anyone can sponsor these books, and volunteers will place them on your behalf.
Book Tables: The wisdom of Krishna Consciousness has been made available in the English language thanks to His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who translated and gave commentaries on these Vedic texts from Sanskrit and English. These books are displayed at book tables at universities, festivals, and outreach programs throughout the year especially during the month of December, commonly referred to as "Prabhupada Marathon".
Sacred Street Chanting : Commonly known as Harinam Sankirtan, this involves spreading the Hare Krishna maha-mantra through the form of music for the benefit of the public. The sound vibration accompanied is accompanied with playing of various traditional instruments, singing and dancing. Wisdom in the form of books and sacred food are distributed as well at markets, and plazas around the city.
“Hare Krishna Food For Life” program is an important activity of ISKCON Calgary. Food for life is a unique free food distribution program, which simultaneously satisfies the body by providing first class vegetarian meals for everyone. And it satisfies the soul because the food is prepared by temple devotees and offered to Lord Krishna before it is distributed. Thus it becomes Krishna prasadam, spiritual food that nourishes body and soul.
ISKCON Calgary is serving prasadam in Calgary Drop in Centre and Mustard Seed for several years, and serves up to 600 plates of prasadam in each event and cost is about $600. Also, Food for Life served prasadam in 2013 to Calgary flood affected people and flood relief volunteers. If you are interested in sponsoring and or volunteering for Food For Life or want to know more about this program, please contact Ram Paul at email@example.com or 780 868 5177.
